Pennsylvania Senator Appointed Chief Clerk of The Boys Nation Senate

Lincoln Davidson was appointed as Chief Clerk for the 2009 American Legion Boys Nation program with the following duties and responsibilities:

1. The Chief Clerk of the Senate shall maintain in proper order both the Legislative Calendar and the Calendar of Bills and Resolutions, making proper entries thereon.
2. At the direction of the presiding officer, the Chief Clerk will read to the senate all bills and resolutions.
3. The Chief Clerk should be thoroughly familiar with the Standing Rules for Conducting Business in the Senate of Boys Nation which relate to the duties of the Chief Clerk.

The American Legion Boys Nation program provides a week of government training in the nation’s capital, comprised of lectures and forums with visits to federal agencies, institutions, memorials and historical sites. Valuable experience of the political process is gained through the organization of party conventions, the introduction and debate on bills and resolutions, and the election of an American Legion Boys Nation President and Vice President.

The young participants were selected for the 2009 American Legion Boys Nation program based on their academic record, leadership potential and previous activities associated with The American Legion Boys State program in each participant’s state.

Each American Legion Boys Nation delegate represents his home state as a “Senator.” The “Senators” caucus at the beginning of the session, organize into committees and conduct hearings on bills, allowing delegates to learn the proper legislative procedures according to the U.S. Senate. American Legion Boys Nation provides aspiring young men with the opportunity to learn about the federal government while participating in a hands-on experience with the electoral process.

Directors Update

All,

I am pleased to announce that we have 159 applications in the Headquarters and most of the packages have been sent out. If you do not receive a package by the 12th of June please call Sharon Delaney at the American Legion Headquarters. Her number is 717-730-9100.

There are some changes to the schedule in the package. For example, we are fortunate to have President Lincoln visit us again this year. We are going to have a joint session on Monday evening with Keystone Girls State for his presentation. It will be in Memorial Auditorium at 7:30 PM.

Think of all the questions you might have had for this President and be prepared to ask him. You will be suprised!

I look forward to meeting all of you.

Director
